5 Installation of the "server" version

Multi version of Tachospeed is a multi-user version that allows several users to work simultaneously. In order to work in such a way, it is necessary to connect computers in a LAN. Installation of the Multi version should be handled by a trained employee in the field of IT networks. Usually this is a network administrator or chief information officer.

The Multi version consists of a server version and a client version. The server version should run on a computer open to all client stations. The client version does not work without connection to the network where the database is installed.

For the client programs to work, it is enough that the Firebird server is running (the server version of Tachospeed does not have to be running). Thanks to this solution, several workstations, and therefore several users, can run simultaneously. The client version also works over the Internet (DSL, Neostrada, Chello, etc.) but only a permanent external server IP address is required.

Installation of the server version
Install the program "as administrator" with the antivirus disabled. The server version is always installed first. The installation proceeds in the same way as for the single-station version, except that after the installation of the server version of the installer is completed, the installation of the Firebird 2.0.7 server is automatically started (only this version number). When installing Firebird 2.0.7 server, the options: use Guardian and run as a service must be enabled. In order for the Firebird 2.0.7 server to work properly, port 3050 (TCP) must be unlocked on the server computer. After installation, restart the computer. In case this is not possible, just start the Firebird server service manually (a description is available in the Firebird server manual).

Now you can proceed to launch Tachospeed. After launching the server version, a window will appear:

Further description of the installation may vary, depending on the selected installation parameters and network parameters.
We enter the server's Internet address: localhost or 127.0.0.1, or any other assigned to this computer. Then we specify the path to the place where the MULTI server version is installed on the server, such as: C:\Program files\Infolab\TachoSpeed.
If we have done everything correctly, the program should start and access the database.

Once the program is installed, license numbers must also be entered and then activated online or by phone through the Technical Support Department (tel. +48 32 70 70 440).

In the unlimited version, there is an option to select a database. In the database selection window, you need to specify the exact path to the database, not just the path to the directory where the program is installed. In this case, the correct path to the database will be:
C:\Program files\Infolab\TachoSpeed\Baza\TACHOSPEED.GDB
We can change the path to the database using the "Edit" button in the database selection window.
In case we cannot connect to the database, the Debug button becomes useful. It opens a window that displays messages with a more detailed description of errors. This allows us to quickly solve connection problems.



The most common problems when installing the server version

  • the program was not installed with antivirus disabled and "as administrator" on the administrator account

  • The program starts, but "does not see" the database (all the time a window pops up with the path to the database and the address of the server):

  • A firewall (such as Norton Security) other than the default one is installed on the server;

  • misspelled IP address (spaces, periods, etc.);

  • Incorrectly stated installation path (there is a difference between the unlimited and limited version);

  • Firebird server disabled (not running as a service or stopped);

  • A different version of Firebird has been installed (it should be 2.0.7);

  • another program on the server has a Firebird or Interbase server installed and they block port 3050 and/or are in an older version (you need to change the computer to install as a server or run a second Firebird server on a different port and enter this number in the program);

  • different version of the database (the server version is lower than the database version) - the problem occurs when trying to restore an older version of the program to a newer database.
